Wide Nostrils
Nostril width can reflect alar flare, a broad nostril floor, a wide sill, or a combination. The correct plan depends on which part of the nasal base creates the width.
Understand the anatomy
What may contribute
The alar sidewalls may flare outward, the nostril floor may be broad, or the relationship between the tip and nasal base may make the nostrils look wider. Facial proportions and normal movement during smiling also matter.
Individual assessment
How the concern is evaluated
Assessment compares the nasal base with the bridge, tip, upper lip, facial width, breathing, skin thickness, existing asymmetry, and how the nostrils change with expression.

Options that may be discussed
When treatment is appropriate, alarplasty may narrow selected parts of the nasal base. Some patients need broader rhinoplasty or tip planning instead; reducing the nostrils alone can create imbalance when the bridge or tip is the main concern.
