Chin Projection

Weak or Recessed Chin

Chin projection affects the balance of the nose, lips, jawline, and neck. A small-looking chin is not always an isolated cosmetic issue.

Understand the anatomy

What may contribute

The appearance may reflect limited projection, reduced vertical height, asymmetry, dental bite, jaw position, soft-tissue thickness, or an apparently prominent nose.

Individual assessment

How the concern is evaluated

Assessment compares the chin with the lips, nose, lower-face height, jawline, bite, symmetry, and neck contour. Significant bite or jaw concerns may require orthodontic or maxillofacial evaluation.

Possible directions

Options that may be discussed

Chin augmentation can improve projection in selected patients, but an implant does not correct every jaw or bite problem. Implant size and position should support facial balance rather than create an exaggerated point.
